Recently, parliamentarians from nine Pacific island nations—Fiji, Kiribati, the Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu—visited Guangdong, China to explore its innovations in sustainable development, agricultural technology, and circular economy practices, as well as the implementation of China's whole-process people's democracy.
Joseph Yopyyopy, Member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea, reflects on the remarkable transformation he has witnessed in Guangdong since his first visit in 2005.
With a population size similar to Guangzhou, Papua New Guinea faces its own challenges in modernization and infrastructure development. Yopyyopy shares his impressions of Guangdong’s advanced waste management systems and highlights potential cooperation opportunities to bring cleaner and more sustainable solutions to his own country.
